BMW Warranty Review

BMW offer a vast array of warranties compared to many manufacturers.

If you buy a used BMW from their main dealers. Then it will be a ‘used approved car' and because, in their words, they "want you to have total confidence in your car ...the warranty is backed by BMW, not third party insurers, and even covers the battery and exhaust."

If you already own a BMW, such a warranty is not available, but instead they offer the ‘BMW Insured Warranty' which is underwritten by AGA International and administered by Mondial Assistance UK Ltd.

There are three levels of insured warranty available to BMW owners. These are listed below but we suggest carefully reading through and noting the differences in cover before making a choice.

Cover can be purchased monthly or annually.

We would advise noting the following issues when considering any BMW extended warranty:

  1. How do BMW define ‘wear and tear?'
    • Opinions on what constitutes ‘wear and tear' vary greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer and insurer to insurer.
  2. In the comprehensive warranty it is stated that upholstery is not covered - check to see if premature wear is considered.
  3. In the Comprehensive warranty, it is stated that the wheels are not covered - check to see if they are covered for premature corrosion.
  4. In the Comprehensive warranty, it is stated that the channels and guides are not covered. Check to see whether an item damaged by a defect in a drainage channel would be covered.

We also advise making sure you   you know the period you need the car to be covered for before comparing BMW's offer to quotes from independent car warranty providers as they will offer discounts for 2 and 3 year warranties.

Does BMW Insured Warranty include any additional benefits?

Yes. A facility for UK roadside recovery only - Warranty Assist - is included with BMW Insured Warranty.

Please note that this service is limited to recovery to the nearest dealer within the UK only and is not a replacement for the full assistance services and benefits provided by BMW Insured Emergency Service at home, elsewhere or on the road in the UK, Republic of Ireland and Continental Europe. BMW Insured Emergency Service cover is available as an option with all BMW Insured Warranty policies.

What options are available for vehicles with mileage over 100,000?

If your vehicle has mileage of 100,000 miles or more, you can still take out a BMW DriveLine Insured Warranty policy.
