Warranty Direct are arguably responsible for creating the direct-to-consumer car warranty market. They are endorsed by What Car? and the Telegraph, and many others.

Their products are insurance warranties, underwritten by Cardif Pinnacle or by Jubiliee insurance at Lloyd's of London.

Another strength is that they will offer discounts if you ask for them, and will tailor the cover to certain extent, which removes some of their products' weaknesses. 

The weaknsses are excess, betterment and an exclusion period at the start of the policy. You can increase your premium to remove these issues however, which then gives you a very comprehensive and useable policy.
